Gary Carr - Poet
Writing CV
Having gained a Distinction on a Creative Writing MA at Keele University and recently completed a course in mentoring , following fifteen years of informal mentoring with Runaway Writers' group, I am setting up to earn the majority of my living through writing and related activities.

I am available for poetry residencies and workshops, one-to-one mentoring, poetry talks and editing. I am also experienced in planning, organising and MCing events of all sizes and would be happy to discuss working in any of these capacities.

I have laid-out a summary of my writing experience and qualifications below. If you would like more details of my experience, or would like to discuss the cost of any of the above, please contact me directly on gajwriter at bt internet dot com
I have had around 60 pieces either published in magazines, anthologies and publisher websites, or placed in competitions. A further twelve poems were printed in a limited edition pamphlet as part of an MA in creative writing.

Recent magazine credits include Under the Radar, The Interpreter's House and five:2:one. Websites include Burning House Press ( and The Staffordshire Collection ( . Anthologies include Cockatiels and Bold Women (for St. Giles Hospice) and the highly acclaimed Voices of 1919.
I am not a "performance" poet in my writing style, but I do have a specific reading style and enjoy being in front of an audience. I have been to hundreds of open mic events. I have been a guest performer at Poetry Alight in Lichfield, Nuneaon Literature Festival, an Edinburgh Free Festival event and at the Buxton Fringe amongst others. I have been placed in three poetry slams - something that surprised me! - and have MC'ed events across the Midlands
